BMW M3 or 540i?

I was looking at the 96 - 99 M3 and also at the 97 - 01 540i, I want a car i can enjoy now, but i also want a car that would last me. which would be better?

well there really two completely different types of cars the 540 is a luxury car that is large and a great highway cruiser the M3 is much smaller and a sports car. it is a great car and fun to drive if you are looking for practicality the 5 series is more practical but the M3 is definitely more fun. They are both pretty reliable with proper maintenance.

I would get 540i. its got 4.0L M60 engine. It will be less to maintain and would last longer than E36 M3. I worked on and maintained E36 M3 and I was not impressed by it. it just takes much more labor to maintain compare to other cars and if you cannot do the work yourself, that the car will financially drain you.
It depends what you are looking for. One is a compact high performance sports sedan. The five series is a larger luxury car.

I'd say the M3 would be more fun. No reason to imagine that either would last longer than the other.
It definitely depends on whether you'd wrather have more of a sports car or a luxury car. I have a '99 M3 convertible and it's great. Go for the M3.
