BMW E46, 328I, Front Brake Discs?

According to my mechanic, I need to replace the front routers (car shakes when I brake). However, should I change the pads and the pad sensor with the routers (even though they have enough meat on them). Also, is it true that we should replace all four brakes at the same time (like tires), or we can deal with the front and rear ones separately?

Thanks.

It would be best to change your front brake pads at the same time. This is because most often the brake pads %26 rotors will develop uneven wear patterns (usually from dirt, foreign bodies, or cheap pads/rotors, not because of the rotors being warped as stated in another post) and the old pads will transfer that wear pattern to the new/resurfaced rotors which isn't that desireable, but not that big of a deal either if it isn't a significant uneveness (many people do this when they don't have enough money to do both). It's between you and your mechanic really.

As stated above in another post, resurfacing/machining the existing rotors is much cheaper than buying new ones, but you must have enough rotor metal thickness left in order to do that. The service center will check this before doing them to determine if they're thick enough or not.

If you do purchase new rotors, be sure to get either the dealer supplied ones or the higher end, more expensive rotors as they are made of a much higher grade, harder metal and will last much longer and work better with your brakes (learned from experience). Same goes for the brake pads themselves.
