The engines used for both 1998 E36 and E46 316 are M43 and M43TU. The specs are the same for head bolts...
Wash and lightly oil head bolts
Jointing torque of 30 newton-meter
Torque angle of 90 degrees
Torque angle of 90 degrees
The valve clearances are not adjustable since they have hydraulic type valve lifters (meaning the engine's running oil pressure will position the valve lifters). If it is noisy, or the compression test is bad, machining, valve grinding/lapping,
parts replacements (particularly of the springs, lifter and/or camshaft) is usually done.
