it had an automatic sensor that you car engine had a problem..having so is a good advantage for knowing your car must be checked....

it could be that the crankshaft speed sensor is bad and the cars are designed now so tat if it overrevs it shuts off the fuel pump

Your need a cam sensor replaced or a crank agle sensor.
Do you have a scanner?
You may need to check for codes
Some parts stores have cheap scan tools that they will loan out if you buy the parts from them.
Such as AutoZone. P.S. you may have a short in the wiring but not likely unless you have been in an accident or something had been worked on lately.
