BMW 328i (e36) gear knob.how do i remove the gear knob on my 1998 328i?

My wife bought me a nice m3 style replacement.the original knob does not look like it unscrews, the replacement looks like it has splines in the insert that the gearstick inserts into rather than the threads i expected.

The replacement is probably the universal type - the plastic splines deform slightly so you get a good, tight fit.

The original knob is a push-fit on the gearstick, with a little screwdriver-like notch to keep it pointing the right way. The come off with a good tug, but as everyone else has said, don't hit yourself in the face doing so.

Break that son-of-a-***** off with a hammer
they pull off but try with some grips moving it from side to side a little first
standard shift knobs are press fit, many broken noses and teeth have been lost,, grab ahold and yank it off, but like I said,, many teeth and broken noses
the serious answer is that it is an interference fit.

how to get it of two plastic bags one filled with ice the other with hot water

ice bag around the shift column hot water around the knob. column contacts with cold know expands with heat pop goes the knob
