BMW custom shifter work. Good idea?

I am considering doing some custom work on my car. I am planning on installing a new short shifter (custom), to reduce the shift throw by 20-25%. How would it look if I made a custom ''boot'' for it? Like the Audi R8 and most Ferrari and Lambos have? I'm talking about the shift ''gate'' I'd also be getting a diff. shift knob.

I had that done for my car (BMW Z3) and everything went okay. Just be careful who you let do this to your car. I went somewhere that specializes in only BMWs.
