That's plenty of information. The timing hole is generally in the same spot on all of the older bmw's. Look right infront of the firewall, for a whole in the top of the transmission (one square centimeter or so). You'll need to buy a timing light. Basically, you clip it to the battery (+/-) and then clip it on one of your spark plug wires. When you turn the car on, the timing light will strobe whenever the cylinder fires. You can point it through the whole - and whenever you see your timing marks, you know you're on track.



To adjust your timing, loosten the bolt that holds your distributor assembly (the entire thing, not just the cap), and rotate it clockwise, or counter clockwise until you see the timing mark directly in the center of the whole. You may want to mark the original position so that you have a setting to fall back on. good luck!
