My 320d (2000,W) Recently had a new injection pump fitted, the old one failed because of contaminated fuel (so I was told) since then starting the car from a warm engine can be really difficult, I have to turn the key 3-4 times before it starts, then is followed with clouds of smoke. Although from a cold engine it starts no problem at all. The garage that fitted the pump said that the contaminated fuel might have done internal damage, but they can't say what with out stripping the engine down. Has anyone come across this problem before, do you think that I should get rid of the car before anything else goes wrong?

Sounds like one or more injectors are sticking. Cold engines use more fuel to start, but warm ones don't. Smoke is a dead give away that the air/fuel mixture is wrong when warm.

I'd agree with Michael B - dud injector(s). Matches with the ''contaminated fuel'' story too.
it sounds very much like the pump timing has not been set correctly.
