i recently have trouble closing both doors,they need to be slammed to be fully shut.any sort of normal pressure will not close them fully and the "open doo" light comes on in the dash.any ideas what the problem is?

Has the car been involved in an accident? Even a small impact on an e46 can create havoc on proper door alignment. Secondly, the e46 has an issue with the weatherstrip seal that goes around each of the four doors. Make sure that the seals are intact and properly seated, etc. Finally, the latches are adjustable, but I would find it hard to believe that both doors suddenly became out of adjustment. It is best to leave this adjustment to a skilled BMW technician.
